Laser Tattoo Removal

With pre & post skin cooling, I use an Nd:Yag laser with high fluence to target tattoo ink, shattering the ink into tiny fragments, which the body will then naturally remove over time.

How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?

It is a known fact that Laser light is easily absorbed by pigment.

In Laser Tattoo Removal, an Nd:Yag Laser with a high fluence is fired over the skin, where the tattoo ink will absorb the light, heating up and effectively shattering into tiny particles

This process is achieved layer-by-layer; session by session.

The body's immune system will then naturally work to remove the fragmented ink particles via natural body detoxification.

Over time, the tattoo will gradually begin to fade as the body eliminates the ink particles.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required can vary from client-t0-client, and depends on a number of factors including:
Quality of tattoo ink used, colours used to make up some of your tattoo colours, ingredients used to make up your ink, quality of ink, medical conditions you may have, medication you may be taking which may have side effects which affect treatment, size of the tattoo, and your body's response to your sessions, amongst other factors.

As a general guideline:

8-12 sessions are recommended for full removal

4-5 sessions are recommended for enough fade to cover-up

How often are the sessions?

Recent studies have shown that longer spaces between tattoo removal sessions lead to far more effective results, and minimal tissue damage, in comparison to more regular sessions.

I recommend 8-12 weeks between sessions, in order to allow the body to naturally eliminate as many fragmented ink particles as possible, before adding to the load with new shattered particles.

Laser Tattoo removal is a slow process as it relies on your body's natural immune system and detoxification. Rushing the process could lead to tissue damage, wasted sessions and wasted money.

Clients are encouraged to be patient and trust the process.

Will my tattoo disappear completely?

No practitioner can guarantee that a tattoo will completely disappear, however we can set expectations based on science and studies, and encourage good pre and post treatment habits in order to promote effective results.

I have been trained to use pre & post cooling techniques which allow me to use a higher fluence safely without a risk to surrounding tissues. Higher fluences often lead to very effective results.

In the majority of clients, black and darker inks can be effectively removed.

Something to note is that certain ink colours cannot be removed with Laser.

These include: White, yellow, and pastel shades which are often colours mixed with white pigment, which reflects Laser light rather than absorbing it.

Some greens, oranges and blues can be tricky to remove, as they are often mixed with some yellow, however the use of different wavelengths, fluences, and patience can often find a way around this.

Some ink ingredients may react to the Laser light, causing them to initially darken or change colour.

We often explore these avenues in the initial Patch Test appointment, and comprise a plan of action with expectations set.

Are the sessions painful?

In a nutshell... yes, it can be.
The sensation of Laser Tattoo Removal is described as being similar to a very hot elastic band pinging off the skin.

I use pre and post cooling techniques to numb the sensory nerve endings as much as possible before, during and after the treatment, in order to keep the treatment as comfortable as possible for the client.

This also helps to prevent tissue damage, and also allows me to use a higher fluence for better results.

Sessions are always timed to allow time during the treatment to stop and re-ice the area, should the client feel they need this.

Clients are provided with aftercare advice on how to keep the tattoo site cooled and comfortable post-treatment.

Do I need a Patch Test?

All clients are required to book a Patch Test & Consultation appointment, at least 48hrs before initial appointment.

This includes clients who have already had Laser Tattoo Removal in the past, as medical circumstances/medications can change, and calibrations of practitioner's machines can vary.

This is a legal requirement and treatment cannot proceed without a Patch Test & Consultation.

After 48hrs have passed with a positive result, sessions may resume.

Patch Test & Consultation appointment is charged at £20, however this is then discounted from the first session's balance.

What is the cost per session?

The price of Laser Tattoo Removal depends on a few factors:

1. The size of the tattoo

2. The number of Laser shots required per session

3. The work that will go in to each session. Some tattoo's with various colours may require areas with different lenses, wavelengths and different fluences to be used.

This can be time consuming and can cause wear on the machine and handpiece.

I have generalised my pricing as much as possible in order to provide a rough idea of costs:
