CryoPen
Cryosurgery treatment of benign skin lesions
Cryotherapy (or Cryosurgery) uses liquefied Nitrous Oxide to destroy the tissue of benign skin lesions by freezing the cell fluid of the tissues. Nitrous Oxide at a temperature of -89 degrees celcius will turn cell fluid into shards of ice which will rupture cell membranes found within these tissues, resulting in destruction of the cells and lesion. The temperature of -89 degrees celcius will not affect healthy tissue.
The process itself takes a matter of seconds, and has been proven to provide a more efficient treatment than other traditional removal methods such as Plasma Pen or Liquid Nitrogen. No anaesthesia is required, and the treatment has minimal scarring. Clients can return to normal activities upon leaving the salon.
At The Four Seasons Salon, we use the patented CryoPen device to remove many benign skin lesions including:
Milia, Skin Tags, Pigmented Spots, Cherry Angiomas, Sun Spots, Seborrheic Keratoses, Warts and Verrucas, in as little as 1 session.

A Typical Session...
First Freeze Cycle
Depending on the size and depth of your lesion, your first freeze cycle may take 1-30 seconds. During this first freeze, your therapist will hold the applicator as close as possible to the lesion, moving it towards and away from your lesion at speed.
Thaw
Tissue will be left to thaw for approximately 30 seconds, following the first freeze cycle.
Second Freeze Cycle
This cycle is generally quicker than the first freeze cycle, as the Nitrous Oxide from the first cycle is already getting to work.
Aftercare
Your therapist will provide you with aftercare to take home.
Follow-Up
A follow-up appointment may be scheduled to review your lesion, in approximately 2-3 weeks.
This appointment is free.

All CryoPen treatments are subject to consultation.
Some clients may be signposted to Dermatology prior to removal, for a second opinion on suitability for removal and/or diagnosis of the lesion.
Clients signposted to Dermatology are welcome to seek a Dermatology appointment via the NHS, or via
Map My Mole in-salon.
Please note, for insurance purposes, we cannot accept verbal consent/diagnosis from a GP - diagnosis and consent must be obtained in writing from Dermatology either via NHS or the Map My Mole service in-salon.
Can anyone have the treatment?
Yes. However, clients who are wishing to have pigmented lesions removed (ie. Sun Spots, Seborrheic Keratoses, moles, etc) must have these checked by a Dermatologist beforehand to evidence that they are benign.
This can be done via the NHS, or clients are welcome to book a Map My Mole Appointment in-salon.
Please note, we cannot remove pigmented lesions without written approval from a Dermatologist.
Can children have CryoPen treatments?
CryoPen can be performed on children, however parental consent is required, and parents must accompany all young people under the age of 16 to the appointment.
For pigmented lesions (Moles, Seborrheic Keratoses, etc), written approval from a Dermatologist is required. This can be done via NHS or via our Map My Mole service in-salon.
Is the treatment painful?
A slight pain sensation can be felt by clients at a penetration rate of 1mm per 5 seconds, depending on the depth of the lesion.
The treatment can be paused at this point.
A slight residual stinging sensation can be felt for a few minutes after treatment.
How many sessions would be required?
Typically 1 session is required for removal of most skin lesions, however for deeper lesions, a further session may be required. This can be reviewed 2 weeks after session 1.
For viral lesions such as Warts or Verrucae, 3-6 sessions may be required.
